I’m still in that pink cloud kind of mood. Totally in love with this high class hotel I recommended to you in the last article, I’d like to introduce you to the “Romanisches Café” which is inside of the Waldorf Astoria. The place to be when in Berlin! Okay, to be honest, I feel like a little hotel groupie but you have to check it out by yourself and you’ll feel the same – I promise.
Our first encounter was all about the best cappuccino I’ve ever had! The taste was so good and combined with that mini blueberry cake …. mhmm…. it was such an unearthly experience I’ll never forget. I’m not a coffee addict, I don’t need a cup of it every day for getting ready. I really enjoy it because tea mostly wins. So if you love the taste of cappuccino, go and get one there!
The next day, by entering the café, I saw an incredible thing in their vitrine. A macaron gateau!! How sweet, perfect and adorable is that, huh? Sadly it was too early to get one of these pie sensations but the breakfast we had instead was also very delicious. I picked out the french and sweet one, including two fresh, super crispy and warm croissants and two sorts of marmalade (kiwi&gooseberry which was SO good and strawberry) and added a fruity plate for some vitamins. Marc sampled the “Berliner Frühstück” which was more savory, because of the selection of cheese and sausages, but also very yummy. But if you’re not an early bird, you can also have lunch if you want.
And here’s a very interesting fact: In the 20s, the “Romanisches Café” was the meeting point for all the berlin artists, intellectuals and actors. During the later dark history of Germany, the erstwhile cool local developed to a regular café of Gestapo members. But with the new hotel, the brilliant era experiences a reincarnation.
